Europe Day Children Races Europe Day Children Races is part of the Europe Day celebrations in Ethiopia. European Union celebrates the day the EU's predecessor was proposed in 1950. Europe Day is one of a number of European symbols designed to foster unity among Europeans. The Great Ethiopian Run organizes EU Children’s Races collaboration with European Union. It has been held since 2004 and became very popular among children and their families. The event includes races for children under 5, 8, 11 and 14 years boys and girls. A total of 3,000 children participants are expected to take part on this event. The races take place at the Ethiopian Youth Sport Academy nearby Imperial Hotel.  The 2019 Europe Day Races took place on Sunday 5th May.  Registration will start on Monday 4th April 2022. Registration will be at Great Ethiopian Run Office located on Bole Road, Alem Building 5th floor, Room 501.  Schools are encouraged to mobilize their students and register as a group through a representative. Bike, Run & Hike Weekend in Bekoji "Great Bekoji Run" with hiking and biking in the land of runners Set on the edge of the Arsi Mountains Park, sitting at 2,800m, Bekoji is the home to many of Ethiopia's world class athletes including Kenenisa Bekele (& his brother Tariku) Derartu Tulu, Tirunesh Dibaba (& sisters Ejegayehu and Genzebe) and Fatuma Roba. In conjunction with the Great Ethiopian Run, the Ministry of Tourism and the Oromia Tourism Commission, Ride the Rift is organizing a Run, Bike & Hike weekend in Bekoji. We are going to drive down to the nearby town of Assela on Friday 13 May after work/school. On Saturday morning we will continue the 56km on to Bekoji. Here we will have the chance to ride mountain bikes on the dirt roads between the cozy town and the afro alpine Arsi park. Non-cyclists will be able to do stunning trekking climbing some of the peaks that reach close to 3,500m. There will also be an option to train with some of the young runners from the town and do a run in the afternoon. We will be camping at the athletes training camp in the town, where toilets and showers are set up, and our cooking team providing good food. In the evening there will be a cultural program. On Sunday morning we will either participate in the Great Bekoji Run, a 7km running course or we will do a 15km bike ride leading out and back into the town. These are races and medals and t-shirts will be given out. We will again get a chance to experience the Arsi culture and have lunch before heading back to Addis Ababa - with a stop for the amazing juices at Awash.
