
Dr Antonella Lavelanet
Antonella Lavelanet is a medical officer in the Maternal and Perinatal Health & Preventing Unsafe Abortion Team at the World Health Organization. She attended medical school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. While there, she participated in several ‘Day on the Hills’, where she gained a real understanding of how politics, policy, and the law directly affect the ability to offer basic medical services to the everyday woman. With the plan to pursue a career in reproductive justice, this experience inspired her to attend law school at Rutgers Camden Law School. She is now barred in New York. She then went on to complete an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Lankenau Medical Center in Philadelphia and completed a family planning fellowship at Boston Medical Center. Her research portfolio includes obstetric and gynecological research. Her interests include laws, policies and human rights related to safe abortion, as well as community-based participatory research, family planning, and self-managed abortion.
